About Us

May Walters is a boutique search consultancy specialising in senior positions within the environmental sector.

The Client

Our client is a nationally recognised and respected UK based consultancy specialising in delivering engineering and environmental services to projects to major clients worldwide.  Their client footprint within the UK includes major infrastructure, blue chip organisations through to residential & commercial development and they have increased this via acquisition within the UK over the last few years.  Their approach to the market is one of ensuring technical excellence and mitigating risks for their clients by using innovative modelling and investigation.  This approach ensures a 'trusted advisor' relationship with clients and has led to them gaining an enviable reputation in the market where they are considered to be one of the thought leaders in terms of technical excellence.  Their service portfolio includes ground, groundwater and surface water investigation and risk assessment, modelling, design of impact mitigation, remediation design and strategic advice to support regulatory compliance and the best outcomes for client’s stakeholders and customers.

After a sustained period of growth and development and more recently an acquisition in the UK market, adding a new selection of service offerings and client markets, an opportunity has arisen for an individual to play a leading role in further developing the environmental services division within the UK.  With some interesting and prestigious projects already secured as reference sites, this role would be to further develop internal and external relationships with existing clients and forge new partnerships to build on the credibility of the organisation in this sector.  This is an important strategic hire for this organisation at an interesting point in their development in the market for an individual to join the management team at a senior level.

The Role

 Responsibilities of the role would include;

•         Delivery of technical support to clients including flood risk management, hydraulic modelling and SUDs

•         Co-ordinating with the heads of discipline through the organisation to teams to deliver services efficiently to clients

•         Develop a trusted partner relationship with clients, identify and advise on further commercial opportunities

•         Develop new and existing clients via tender and to identify opportunities for this and other divisions

             Identify and recruit, mentor and develop a team

The Individual

In addition to being appropriately qualified and chartered, it is envisaged that the right individual would;

•         Be located and have a track record of working within the UK, ideally but not restricted to the midlands / south

•         Have a track record of delivering flood risk or consequence management, drainage, hydraulic modelling or similar work.

•         Have a track record in delivering multi disciplinary projects on time and budget within the UK

•         Be able to develop client relationships and translate technical issues in a commercial manner

Interest would be welcomed from all who can demonstrate a proactive and professional approach to clients as a pre-requisite.  This is a senior role within the organisation but applications are also welcome from individuals who would consider this as a move upwards in their career, in addition to more senior individuals wishing to play a part in the exciting development of the company.

For the right individual, a very competitive package would be constructed, together with a performance related bonus, reflective of the role and contribution made.  In terms of prospects, the culture of the organisation is geared towards enabling individuals to achieve their professional goals and understanding these goals would form a part of the interview process.

It is notable that despite having a large international footprint and resource, the environmental division is managed autonomously, therefore it can provide a large scope of progression and a supportive culture indicative of a smaller company.
