Senior Asset Manager (Asset Management Strategy)

Location: Hatfield

Purpose

The Senior Asset Manager role leads the Asset Management Strategy team and sits within Strategic Planning & Environment alongside Environmental Planning (technical advisory and monitoring) and Environmental Enhancement (programme delivery). This is a new role and the Senior Asset Manager will develop the objectives, programmes and service offering of this team delegating appropriately to deliver the following key responsibilities.

Job Description

Leadership 

• Development of this new team with a focus on asset management policies and strategies. Build the remit and reputation of this team with both internal and external audiences. Set goals, targets and deliverables for the team. Using exceptional people skills to lead the team and influence stakeholders. Set and agree a programme of work against time, quality and cost. Manage the performance of the team.

Drought planning 

• Keeping abreast of and contributing to industry thinking on drought planning and drought management e.g. National Drought Group, WaterUK and ensuring the following deliverables:

• Development of the company’s Drought Management Plan, Environmental Assessment Reports and annual updates.

• Technical input to Drought Management Group during live drought status working cooperatively with other parts of the business.

• Ensuring the Drought Management Plan is time synchronised with, cohesive with and appropriately considered within the Water Resources Management Plan.

Climate change 

• Understanding the impact of climate change on key factors relating to our plans including:

• impact of climate change on yield and on water quality ensuring these are reflected in our Water Resources Management Plan. 

• Develop climate change strategy position for the business

• Adaptation strategy, reporting and input to mitigation measures. 

• Keeping abreast of developments in the industry to ensure current thinking.

• Work closely with control room and production to ensure deliverables are agreed.

Natural capital 

• Development of an Affinity Water approach to natural capital and working towards implementation and use for future planning.

Community Master Development Plans 

• Creating the holistic view and strategic plan for each community. Looking at what is happening in each community and considering issues and impacts. Creating a 5 – 10 year horizon. Looking beyond what current processes can offer 

Asset protection

• Building an effective asset protection function for the business which:

• coordinates input and develops responses to planning requests.

• Responds to water cycle studies and environmental consultations, infrastructure/catchment consultations, environmental information requests. 

• Builds effective relationships with local planning authorities and our developer community.

• Manages Land Group and protects long term interests of the business in assessing land use.

• Leased asset reviews to ensure timely discussions on renewal.

Asset management policy and strategy 

• Development of the strategic plan for the management of assets, strategic asset management process.

Asset management competence 

• Looking at both personal and organisational competency. Determining the activities and processes necessary to ensure our people and organisation are capable of delivering asset management objectives. Develop plans to ensure an adequate supply of competent and motivated people to fulfil asset management objectives.

Communications and engagement 

• Developing and leading on a programme of engagement within the business to communicate the aims, goals, vision and plans of the directorate. 

Role Capabilities 

The role requires 10+ years experience, 5 of which in a senior level role ideally in a planning, asset protection or asset policy position in the utilities sector. Experience of the water industry in our supply area would be an advantage as would coming to the role with an existing network of contacts at the local council/GLA/water company level. Demonstrable exceptional influencing and engagement skills combined with highly articulate and effective written and spoken communication skills are a must.
