We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the team in Beijing. This exciting role in the Carbon Trust’s Beijing office has been created to grow our green finance work in China. This role will be client-facing, principally with financial institutions, and with responsibility for proactively developing business across the full range of green finance activities and for making decisions on green finance-related bids and projects. This role will also form part of project delivery teams, working closely with project managers from other Carbon Trust teams to bring the best of the Green Finance Team’s knowledge to bear and ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.

About us:

The Carbon Trust's mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, low carbon economy. We are independent experts on carbon reduction and resource efficiency, who reinvest surpluses from group commercial activities into our mission.

The Carbon Trust provides innovative advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy. We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology.

• Deliver financial analysis, data modelling and other advice/support as part of consultancy activities around green finance, including but not limited to: identifying, assessing, measuring and managing climate risks for investment portfolios; adoption and implementation of the TCFD framework; setting metrics and targets around green aspirations for financial institutions (e.g. net zero and science-based targets); and wider capacity building
• Grow profitable revenues through proactive account management and by collaborating closely with colleagues in the successful delivery of green finance projects
• Lead on proposition development for this relatively nascent market
• Make prudent go/no go decisions for bids and projects, drawing on a good understanding of the Carbon Trust’s capabilities and credentials; provide QA for bids and projects
• Support project delivery teams for green finance opportunities, ensuring that the best and full knowledge of the Green Finance Team is incorporated into proposals and deliverables
• Build a network within the financial sector across China in collaboration with the Carbon Trust’s offices in Singapore and London
• Represent the Carbon Trust at relevant industry events and networking groups
• Stay on top of market developments and develop thought leadership opportunities
• Contribute to internal capacity building through effective knowledge management and training, with a particular focus on a wider group of colleagues who share a strong interest in green finance

Key skills we are looking for:

• Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships and influence decision-making, both externally with clients and internally with colleagues
• Goal-focussed; tenacious in pursuing new business without losing sight of the Carbon Trust’s values and principles
• Good negotiation and persuasion skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment where collaboration across teams is essential
• Strong bid writing and project management skills
• A proactive, positive, self-sufficient approach to your working commitments
• Excellent written and oral communication in Chinese and English

Qualifications and experience:

• Degree educated (or equivalent), in a numerate discipline, e.g. economics, finance, statistics, engineering
• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant quantitative/finance discipline or a comparable professional qualification (such as PRMIA, GARP, CFA) would be an advantage
• Extensive experience in sustainable finance, climate risk-related field or environmental consulting
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial services and products
• Ability to understand and present complex products and services, with experience in delivering presentations
• Some programming skills or experience working with statistical software (R/SAS/Python) would be an advantage but is not essential
