About the role:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual to join the Carbon Trust team in Beijing. This exciting role in the Carbon Trust’s Beijing office is focused on establishing the Carbon Trust brand in China and growing our portfolio of Chinese corporate clients. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of both corporate sustainability and the marketing and communications tools that are appropriate for establishing a global brand in China. 

We are a world-leading provider of carbon-related business advisory and assurance services with over 300 active clients, including a large number of internationally recognised B2C and B2B brands. We are prominent in net zero target setting, product footprinting and carbon labelling, carbon pricing, energy efficiency, renewable energy, greening supply chains, clean technology incubation and investment, green finance, and sustainability strategy more generally.

This role will be responsible for tailoring and delivering localised marketing campaigns in line with the Carbon Trust’s global brand strategy in order to grow awareness of the Carbon Trust brand in China. The role will also lead on developing communications materials and marketing partnerships to ensure the visibility of the Carbon Trust and increase the impact of our work in China. Finally, the position will work with the rest of the Carbon Trust Beijing office and experts in the UK to deliver marketing and communications activities as part of client work.

We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The role consists of the following activities related to marketing and communications:

(1) Marketing and communications to support business development

• Working with the Global Marketing Manager to deliver tailored, localised marketing campaigns in line with the global brand strategy and vision to grow awareness and relevance of the Carbon Trust brand in China, in line with business objectives
• Develop and execute localised plans based on any additional market needs to enhance the overall Carbon Trust brand in China
• Adapt global assets and develop any additional tailor-made branding and communication materials for Carbon Trust work in China (such as company brochure), working in collaboration with international colleagues
• Maintain and enhance effectiveness of company communication channels including press relations, website, WeChat account, other social media, etc.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to raise the visibility of Carbon Trust and increase the impact of our work. This would include the right mix across communications channels, relevant events and leveraging issues of public interest to reach out to multiple influential audiences, with compelling stories and messages drawn from our work that contributes to the zero-carbon future, in partnership with the global team in London
• Appropriately use the different marketing channels, including events, conferences, workshops to promote Carbon Trust’s brand and services
• Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant organisations including international NGOs to gain marketing and communications opportunities
• Develop communications materials for Carbon Trust’s projects including but not limited to, website content, factsheets, newsletters, and case studies, press releases, that show the breadth of the Carbon Trust’s work in China and support new client acquisition
• Provide suggestions/talking points and media training; provide editorial support to original articles related to Carbon Trust services

(2) Project delivery

• Work in partnership with the Beijing Office, Partner Managers and Associate Director of Market Engagement to deliver marketing and communications activities involved in client work
• Working with colleagues to bring in brand, events, design and copywriting expertise from the wider marketing team in order to deliver client work
• Building client relationships and representing clients’ marketing and communications needs to the rest of the business, whilst protecting the interests of the Carbon Trust and its brand integrity

Key skills we are looking for:

• Good understanding of marketing and communications tools and approaches for establishing a global brand in China in a B2B or international NGO environment
• Excellent writing skills – from social media through to long articles
• Effective communicator and story teller
• Good knowledge of digital communications and proven experience in how communications integrate with wider marketing campaigns
• Media relations experience
• Experience in delivering marketing campaigns based on audience insights
• Market research experience
• Experience working as part of a global team
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop positive relationships internally and externally
• High-quality writing skills and the ability to demonstrate dealing with complex subject matter and presenting it for a range of non-technical stakeholder groups
• Positive, can-do, proactive attitude
• Speaks fluent Chinese with excellent written and oral communication in English

Qualifications and experience: 

• Extensive experience in marketing communications field, preferably related to climate change, corporate sustainability
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, e.g. marketing, communications, energy, environment, etc. (or bachelor's degree or equivalent with relevant experience)
• Excellent communication, research and writing skills in both Chinese and English 
• Ability to communicate clearly and consistently with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
• Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
• Ability to work cooperatively with media and stakeholders, including policymakers, industry, and NGOs
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure managing multiple tasks to meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, highly motivated, proactive work style, detail-oriented, accountable, and with excellent organisational skills

Salary & Benefits: 

We offer a competitive salary and a performance based bonus. Our hours are 37.5 per week with 10 days paid holiday plus public holidays and a pension scheme.
