Wood is recruiting for an Electrical Engineering Team Lead to join our Project Development Engineering (PDE) team within our renewables consulting division.

The Renewables centre of excellence is based in Glasgow; however, we recognise the value of remote and hybrid working so are open to applications throughout the UK.

The Role

The Electrical Engineering Team Lead will manage the electrical engineering team and the programme of projects being delivered across a portfolio of clients.  As a focal point for electrical engineering this role will ensure our projects are executed safely, on-time, to budget and to the required standard.

You will be the main point of contact for the client, ensuring any challenges that arise are dealt with directly to ensure the development of strong relationships. You will also lead the team’s business development activities as well as development of the teams electrical engineering capabilities to ensure continued growth for the renewables division.

In addition, this role will be responsible for the mentoring and development of other team members ensuring the knowledge and experience you have is shared to support in the future growth of the team and the industry.

Typical responsibilities

• Electrical Engineering - Management and development the electrical engineering team, working closely with the other teams within Renewables to support and grow the business

• Project Management - Manage the Electrical Engineering team’s programme of projects to ensure the company’s profits are being maximised whilst delivering the works on time with the goal of exceeding client’s expectations

• Health and Safety (H&S) - Ensure health and safety considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks

• Financial - Monitor and report on the financial status of all electrical engineering team’s projects. Ensure the profitability of the team is maximised by minimising non-chargeable time where relevant

• Project Controls - Implement a suite of project controls to enable efficient and accurate monitoring of the internal and external aspects of projects

• Information & Reporting - Upwardly report on the status of proposals, projects, and opportunities. Disseminate company information and required working practices to the Electrical Engineering Team as required

• Business Development - Identify and carry out business development activities to support the winning of new work.  Review of project proposal information to aid in winning new work

• Line Management - Lead, coach, motivate and develop direct reports to optimise performance and employee capability. Recruit and select suitable staff to ensure adequate resource and skills are in place to meet business needs

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering

• Chartered status 

• Experience of developing renewable energy systems technology projects

• Engineering management experience

• Ability to recruit, manage, motivate and mentor a team

• Ability to prepare and write high quality concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders

• Excellent IT skills particularly MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint

• Strong organisational and analytical skills to allow delivery of tasks in a logical and methodical manner

• Experience of cost-control (ideally earned value management), issue, risk, opportunity and programme management


• Chartered status

• Previous experience of working in a consultancy, ideally in a supervisory role

• Stakeholder management

• Experience in Power Electrical Engineering

• Prior experience in design and construction of Transmission, Distribution and Generation systems

• Experience in delivering multiple multi-disciplinary projects simultaneously
