My client, an award-winning team of Landscape Architects and Ecologists, is seeking an Assistant / Consultant Ecologist to join the team in the West Midlands this spring.

You will be working on a rapidly expanding project portfolio, collaborating with founders, landscape and technical teams, as well as the in-house ecology team, on projects including some of the UK’s largest planning and regeneration schemes. Due to the volume of BNG work that is currently available, it is important that you have strong knowledge and experience of Biodiversity Net Gain regulations and the relevant surveying and reporting requirements.

As a small, specialist consultancy with a highly-committed (and extensive) client base, they have the luxury of cherry-picking projects based off what the team are most interested by. Currently, they focus primarily on urban developments and conservation projects, which means less big infrastructure and HS2 work!

Ideally, you will be based out of the Birmingham office, however there are flexible and remote working arrangements in place to support their team to achieve that all important work/life balance (alternative office locations in central Warwickshire or Cambridge).

The Role:

* Undertaking surveys, such as; Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Surveys, Mitigation Strategies
* Provide ECoW services for construction sites.
* Developing bat survey and mitigation services, collaborating with the Principal Ecologist and Ecology Director
* Keeping accurate field notes and effective handling, recording and storing of data.
* Producing high quality, professional reports and preparing supporting maps and data.
* Liaising with clients and contractors.
* Organising and supervising other ecology staff and sub-consultants.
* Developing and nurturing a local client base.
* Preparing bids and quotations.
* Marketing and promotion of ecology and the wider company services.

Qualifications / Requirements:

* Minimum 1 year’s professional experience in Ecological Consultancy
* Bachelor’s degree in relevant field e.g., Ecology, Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Science etc
* Strong knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain requirements and regulations
* Experience completing relevant UK Ecological surveys and reports (PEA, HRA, BNG, UK Habs etc)
* Working towards EPSM licence (or currently holding)
* Understanding of UK ecological survey methodology

If you would like to apply, please submit an up-to-date CV through the link on this page. Alternatively, if you would like to hear more on the role, contact Damon on 0207 960 2586
